About Rome

Are you here in Rome to visit the beauties of the city but want to get away from the chaos of the city? Have you brought your children with you?

We suggest an half day trip to Castel Gandolfo, a location perfect for the whole family just 10 miles away from Rome city center.

You can reach Castel Gandolfo village with a local train and enjoy a ride of 40 minutes through the countryside.

As soon as you arrive in Castel Gandolfo your eyes will be captured by the panoramic view of the local hills falling into the lake Albano.  The village is a charming village with many local stores and delicious restaurants.

For families with children, we definitely suggest a great tour of the Vatican Gardens of the Pope’s summer residence on a Golf Cart!

The whole family will have fun and learning from your guide about the baroque Gardens partially built over the ruins of Domitian’s emperor villa. You will tour through the Pope Gardens in a Golf cart and see beautiful plants and flowers, very old threes more than 400 years old, enjoy the view of baroque fountains embellished with statues from the roman times and see the local farm from where genuine products like milk, cheese and yogurt are produced in the Vatican farm.

The Papal villas are the union of Villa del Moro, Villa Cybo and Villa Barberini and are more commonly known as Castel Gandolfo Pope’ Summer Residence, after the name of the town where they are located.

The Papal Palace

Nowadays also the Papal Palace is open to the public thanks to Pope Francis who decided not to use it as his private summer residence.

After the Golf Cart tour through the gardens, you can choose to visit the Papal Palace and the whole family can discover the uniforms of the Vatican guards in use in the past times, see the Pope’s cars, see the amazing portraits of the Popes, some of them very famous because they were the patrons of Michelangelo and Raphael, discover the official rooms for important ceremonies and the studio of the Pope.

This is a perfect tour for families because your kids will be fully involved and will learn having fun. You will visit a little gem out of Rome without crowd.

After your tour we suggest a nice lunch in one of the several local restaurants located just outside the Pope Summer Residence. If you are a food lover Castel Gandolfo is a special place to find real Italian local cuisine and local wine.
