You will enter the Vatican Museums with skip the line tickets and priority entrance, escorted by our knowledgeable guide. Once you reach the upper floors of the Vatican, you will enter the famous Pinacoteca where paintings from the 12th to the 19th centuries are preserved. Your expert guide will mention some of the great painters such as Giotto, Perugino, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio and Leonardo Da Vinci. In the Pinacoteca are also preserved the precious tapestries produced in the Flemish country for Pope Leo X Medici, whose cartoons were designed by Raphael. These tapestries represent stories from the life of St. Peter and St. Paul. In past centuries they were hung inside the Sistine Chapel.
After this immersive tour in the Pinacoteca, you will continue to the Vatican galleries such as the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of the Tapestries and the Gallery of the Maps.
The Gallery of the Maps shows Italy and the regions related to the church. These beautiful maps were designed by a Friar who was a cosmographer and he was called Ignazio Danti. The gallery used to be an open loggia and it was conceived in this way for Pope Gregory XIII, also known as the “Pope of the Gregorian calendar”.
Your amazing experience continues to the Raphael Rooms. Young Raphael painted most of the apartment of Pope Julius II. Among the most beautiful paintings is the 'School of Athens' or the 'Dispute'. You will learn stories and anecdotes about Raphael and Michelangelo, who were rivals at that time.
Right below it, you will discover the Borgia Apartment. Once it was property of the Spanish Pope, Alexander the VI, whose daughter was Lucrezia Borgia. The Apartment is home to spectacular decoration including rooms painted by Pinturicchio.
Your experience culminates inside the Sistine Chapel. Once inside it, its beauty will astonish you. Look up at the Creation of the World represented by the young Michelangelo in the 1508-1512, it will take your breath away! The impressive Last Judgement on the Altar wall will overwhelm you too.
After the Sistine Chapel, you will make your way out through the Galleries of the Vatican Library where precious gifts for the Popes are exhibited and recent discoveries from the excavations are visible.
