Just 12 miles outside of Rome stands the town of Castel Gandolfo, home to the Papal Residence for over 400 years. Join us on an exclusive visit of the Apostolic Palace and the Barberini Gardens, and live for a day as a Pope!
Our group meets at the central station Termini from where you will take the train towards Castel Gandolfo. Your personal tour leader will delight you with an introduction of your destination, and the stories of the many popes, and Roman emperors before them, who decided to retire away from the Roman summer heat.
Once at Castel Gandolfo, you’ll walk to the Papal residence where you’ll be given an official Vatican audio guide and begin the tour. The first part of this experience involves a ride on the Vatican ecological open bus for an hour around the Barberini Gardens.
While you enjoy the fresh air and summer breeze of Castel Gandolfo, the staff of the Papal residence will prepare your exclusive lunch. Before going to get a bite in the Papal gardens, you’ll make another stop and visit the Apostolic Palace from inside. Here you’ll have the once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the Papal apartments, see the Holy Father’s library, and much more.
Around 12 pm you’ll be invited to dine in the stunning gardens of Castel Gandolfo, while sipping on delicious local wine.
After your visit of the Papal residence, your tour leader will join you once again and take you for a lovely stroll around the roman town. Take advantage of stopping at the local shops, famous for their boar meat sausages and lovely wine. Complete your visit with a lovely picture with Lake Albano on the facade, and breathe the fresh air of the mountains.
You’ll return to Rome by train around 2.30 pm, hopefully with a good memory and many pictures!
